Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong sometimes abbreviated DK, is a Nintendo video game character, first appeared in the popular 1981 video game of the same name. Initially Donkey Kong was just a large, muscular, brown gorilla, with no distinct features. Since the 1994 Donkey Kong game remake, he is depicted wearing a red necktie with a DK emblem. The creator of Donkey Kong, Shigeru Miyamoto, used a Japanese to English dictionary to look up a name for his "stubborn monkey." Under the synonyms for "stubborn" Miyamoto found the word "donkey" and under "monkey" he found "kong" and thus when naming the character "Donkey Kong," he believed this name would translate to "stubborn monkey," in English. In fact, when he suggested this name to Nintendo of America, he was ridiculed, but they went with his name anyway.
