This page is about Wario. Wario is a video game character created by Gunpei Yokoi of Nintendo. While making his first appearance as the antagonist in the 1992 Game Boy game Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, he eventually spun-off into his own franchise, starting with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. The name "Wario" is Mario's name blended with the Japanese adjective warui meaning "bad"; hence, a "bad Mario". Like Mario and Luigi, Wario is voiced by Charles Martinet, though Hiroshi Otake and Chikao Otsuka have also contributed for the Japanese commercials.
